オープンソースソリューションのプロバイダとして世界をリードするRed Hat, Inc.（本社：米国ノースカロライナ州ラーレー、社長兼CEO：ジム・ホワイトハースト、NYSE：RHT、以下Red Hat）は本日、Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6の最新リリースとなる「Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4」の提供開始を発表いたしました。今回のリリースで、パフォーマンス、安定性、柔軟性を最適化し、物理、仮想、クラウド環境にまたがる負荷管理を容易にすることを実現しています。Red Hat Enterprise Linuxは、企業のニーズにあった支援を実現する、いくつかの新しいコンポーネントを導入しています。
ParallelNFS（pNFS）によるデータアクセスのスケールアウト
Red Hatは、パートナーおよびコミュニティと協力し、pNFS（parallel Network File System）の業界標準化を進めてきました。pNFSは、データの爆発的増加によるNFSの増設や、複雑なファイルシステムの管理の負荷増大といった問題を解決します。また、データベースアクセスなどのI/O負荷の高い処理のパフォーマンスを向上させる機能も追加されています。Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4で提供される、市場初のサポート完備のpNFSクライアントを使用することで、お客様はpNFSをベースとした次世代のスケーラブルなファイル システム ソリューションの計画と設計を開始できるようになります。

アイデンティティ管理の強化によるセキュリティへの注力
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4は、アイデンティティおよびホストベースのアクセス管理により、セキュリティ機能を拡張しています。今回のリリースでは、アイデンティティ管理がLinuxベースかMicrosoft Active Directory を問わず、異種混合環境での相互運用が容易になっています。
VMwareおよびHyper-Vでの仮想ゲスト機能の強化
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4には、Microsoft Hyper-V Linuxドライバが含まれ、Microsoft Hyper-V上でゲストOSとして実行した際のパフォーマンスが向上しています。また今回のリリースで、VMwareとMicrosoft Hyper-Vパラ バーチャライゼーション（準仮想化） ドライバのインストールサポートも提供しており、これらの環境での導入時の作業負荷が軽減されています。
管理機能の強化
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4ではコントロールグループ（cgroups）が強化され、グループ間でマルチスレッドアプリケーションをスムーズに移行できるようになりました。さらに今回のリリースでは、Intelの新しいカウンタ（PMU：パフォーマンスモニタリングユニット）をサポートする、パフォーマンス モニタリング ツールが強化されています。
新ツールの追加による生産性向上
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4では、生産性向上のための重要な機能が改善されています。Microsoft Exchangeとの相互運用性の強化、Evolutionのカレンダーサポート、その他にアラーム通知や会議のスケジュールなどの新機能が追加されています。また、新しいWacomタブレットのサポートが追加されたことは、 アニメーターやデザインアーティストに大きなメリットを提供しています。
